Okay, now that I have some distance from the experience, I think I am ready to talk about my recent trip to the Fractured Prune, the new donut eatery on P Street. Please don't post any comments about "why is is called the Fractured Prune??" because I don't know. What I do know is that there is an enormo mural of a California Raisin with a busted arm and a peg leg. (NOT JOKING!!!)
Nikki and I went last weekend to scope out the FP and sat on the purple faux leather sofa for a while taking in the scene before approaching the counter. She had already observed that when people came in, they were promptly greeted and asked if it was there first visit. When they said yes, they would YELL "first-tiiiiiimmmmeeeeeeer" and then all of the employees manning the glaze troughs and toppings barrels would begrudgingly scream "first-tiiiiiimmmmeeeeeeer" in some sort of annoying call and response.
We were prepared to handle the ensuing humiliation because as a first-timer, you would receive a free "OC-sand" donut, their "most popular," which is basically a donut dipped in liquid sugar and then rolled around in solid sugar.
So we go up to the register and act all confused, Nikki keeps flipping through the menu, we start talking about how we had never been there before, but NOTHING!! I have to PAY for my "OC-sand" donut, their "most popular," and eat it while I hear the over-zealous manager guy accost dozens of first-timers with his greeting and free donut.
It was a great disappointment in the quest for fried breakfast treats.

I wish there was an audio link of you saying "first-tiiiiiimmmmeeeeeeer......."
But really do prunes even fracture? Aren't they soft so more likely to rip or tear or squash but not fracture? Maybe it should be the ripped prune. That name would make TOTAL sense.
Vicki and I drove around Rockville Town Center yesterday, which is the alleged site of another FP, but no sign of the peg-legged raisin. There is a lot of construction, though, with the promise of yet another Five Guys and Austin Grill, among others. When the Rockville FP opens I am all over that first-timer action.
