WHAT THE PUBLIC DEMANDS, THE PUBLIC RECEIVES

Dear Readers,

Tonight I introduce to you a new feature. Put simply, I have heard your cries and I have responded.

Many of you have snacks that you want to learn more about, snack mysteries that you want solved, and favorite snacks that you want to share with someone of my stature.

From time to time, I will sort through the ELECTRONIC MAILBAG and select one of your inquiries to feature on the BLOG.

Our inaugural item comes all the way from New York City, where Brian says, "what about Polly-O String Cheese?" What ABOUT Polly-O String Cheese indeed. It is a delightful, and calcium enriched, SNACK. I just picked up this package tonight to conduct a photo shoot in my kitchen. I can't wait to have a stick of mozzarella tomorrow, and I will be sure to take some actions shots featuring the ACTUAL STRINGS.

My sometimes informant Leigh Anna INFORMS me that there is a variety of string cheese that is in fact two different cheeses twisted together. I intend to do some further reporting this weekend and hope to bring you an update this weekend.

PLEASE, keep your snack stumpers coming my way!

Thank you, snack maniac, for not only hearing my cries but also for responding to them. You are a true public servant.

I recently re-discovered Polly-O string cheese - a pleasant and surprisingly very filling treat - and it has done nothing short of revolutionize my snack world.

In excitedly speaking with my co-worker Amanada about this individually-wrapped gift from the SNACK GODS, she acted out for me, word for word, from memory, the origional Polly-O string cheese commercial.

A slice (if you will): "Get me a cheese [pizza] with nuthin!" "Nutuin?!?"

Well, the SNACK GODS have smiled on us again, because there is this place on the INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY that allows ordinary people to upload digital videos of just about anything (think of it as the democratization of "America's Funniest Home Videos" - imagine the possibilities!) and some snack-loving fan has uploaded this original commericial, and so I now present it to you, via this HYPERLINK:

Enjoy!

Dear SM,

I love this new feature -- it's great to have such a responsive snack researcher. In your next reader feature, I am interested in the history of string cheese: Who created it? How was it invented?

I love your BLOG.

Man oh man, I forgot how great that Polly-O commercial was. Where did they find those stunningly good looking and talented child actors?

Also, I've tried the Kraft "Twist-ums" variety and they are dee-lish.

Not sure how I feel about this product, though...
