WHAT THE PUBLIC DEMANDS, THE PUBLIC RECEIVES

Dear Readers,

Tonight I introduce to you a new feature. Put simply, I have heard your cries and I have responded.

Many of you have snacks that you want to learn more about, snack mysteries that you want solved, and favorite snacks that you want to share with someone of my stature.

From time to time, I will sort through the ELECTRONIC MAILBAG and select one of your inquiries to feature on the BLOG.

Our inaugural item comes all the way from New York City, where Brian says, "what about Polly-O String Cheese?" What ABOUT Polly-O String Cheese indeed. It is a delightful, and calcium enriched, SNACK. I just picked up this package tonight to conduct a photo shoot in my kitchen. I can't wait to have a stick of mozzarella tomorrow, and I will be sure to take some actions shots featuring the ACTUAL STRINGS.

My sometimes informant Leigh Anna INFORMS me that there is a variety of string cheese that is in fact two different cheeses twisted together. I intend to do some further reporting this weekend and hope to bring you an update this weekend.

PLEASE, keep your snack stumpers coming my way!

Return to the FP...

So, much like the Western frontier, the Fractured Prune is an ongoing exploration fraught with peril. It's less like the Western frontier in that it is somewhat smaller and has purple faux leather furniture.

It being our second time visiting the terrifying, sugar-high franchise, Nicole and I knew what we were up against and, as they said on the Oregon Trail, GRABBED THE BULL BY THE HORNS.
We ordered three donuts, one with chocolate glaze, one with mocha glaze and oreos (MORNING BUZZ,) and one with maple glaze and cinnamon sugar (FRENCH TOAST.) Oh man, we were truly the banker on the trail, rich, but unprepared for what was to come.
Around the same time we were surveying the wreckage, we noticed a hobo outside the FP who seemed to collect a full dozen from the trash can right outside the shoppe. An FP feast for all!!

Nikki and SnackManiac are always available for a tete a tete or consultation at the Prune, so pick your poison and submit an inquiry in the comments section.

50% of the cooking I did in 2006

Check out these cookies!! I made them on New Year's Eve for Sarah's party.

They are sandwiches made out of sugar cookies covered in coconut with melted white chocolate in between. They were very sweet and required I fashion a double boiler out of existing kitchen equipment. I AM THE TOP CHEF!

Progressive musings on MLK Jr. Day (don't worry, post IS about snacks)

MLK Jr. Day news you won't see anywhere else:

NIH HAS A DREAM (ABOUT THEIR STAFF CAFETERIA)

(Nikki did the reporting for this expose, so all credit goes to her.)

So our government's preeminent institution dedicated to the advancement of science apparently decided to promote the advancement of racial stereotypes yesterday by celebrating MLK Jr. Day with fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and collard greens in the cafeteria yesterday.

I can't really throw stones in that a) I love macaroni and CHEESE and b) I celebrated Dr. King's commitment to social justice and equality by purchasing a bottle of Bacardi Melon from the clearance bin at Calvert-Woodley.

While Nikki was quick to call my out on my hypocrisy re: the relationship between watermelon, fried chicken, church picnics, etc., Laurie was much more understanding:

SnackManiac: I just wanted to let you know that I commemorated MLK day by buying watermelon Bacardi.

Laurie: That is what he would have wanted.

Long overdue New Year's Eve post

Nikki, Garrett and I RANG in the New Year with a champagne toast for the ages. Wonderland offered GRATIS baby Miller High Lifes ("the champagne of beer.") It was very clever and hilarious. Please note the photo of both the High Life itself and me LIVING the high life with Nikki.

I also made some cookies that we ate in advance of Wonderland at Sarah's new condo. I will get the photo documentation of those up this weekend.

Also: BREAKING: FP STILL STINKS. New report coming soon on why a donut dipped in Oreos makes your stomach hurt and how hobos flock to the Prune for rejected "chocolate covered cherry" donuts.

Diabetes for breakfast

I saw an amazing commercial yesterday for a new product, the Strawberry Frosted Miniwheat. I can't vouch for the cereal itself, but the tv commercial leads me to believe that it is a true delight. And talkative. I came into the ad mid-way, but the mini-wheats were talking to some kids while they were in school.

I can't seem to find the commercial on You Tube, but you can see some product details and an adorable picture of a mini wheat with a face and legs here.

I also found a website that really knocked my socks off and I hope to learn a few lessons from. While the reviews of the Strawberry Miniwheats seem to be pretty negative, I strongly recommend that you visit Mr. Breakfast regardless.

New Year's resolution

I just wanted to let the public know that I just had Kraft macaroni & cheese and a gin & Fresca for dinner.
